  • Professional interaction and collaborationwith other Savage Team Membersand customers A railroad switch (AE), turnout, or set of points (BE) is a mechanical installation enabling railway trains to be guided from one track to another, such as at a railway junction or where a spur or siding branches off.
  • Inspect rail cars and perform air brake inspections.
  • Operate a locomotive to spot rail cars, unload, and buildoutbound trains.

    Pulled or pushed track switches to reroute cars.Started or stopped trains when coupling or uncoupling cars, using hand signals, lanterns, or radio communications.Able to effectively communicate instructions, directions, processes, procedures, safety rules, and regulations to co-workers, supervisors, and others in written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule form.Able to talk to and effectively communicate with co-workers, yard personnel, switching crew, engineers, railroad officials and others in a clear, concise, courteous, efficient, and professional manner.Able to think and act quickly in responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.Given instructions to throw track switches and to couple and uncouple cars.Notified engineer of switching orders and, whereby, which cars are to be moved to specified locations of the yard, using radio, telephone, verbal or hand signals.Coupled air and electrical connections between locomotives when making up trains.Inspected the condition of the train and equipment in movement and while stationary.Prepared required daily reports switch lists - manually or with a computer.Read and understood the book of rules, timetables, bulletins, train orders, waybills, placards, safety instructions, and other written or printed material.Operated track switches (visually checks switch condition and route) to change the direction of the engine or cars within yard limits or on the main track may apply or release hand brakes to switch or perform other duties.Experience switching railcars, working in the rail industry or operating a railroad locomotive is a plus, but not required.
